200 years after Darwin, the evolution debate still rages on

Nearly 200 years after Charles Darwin's birth, the war on evolution is still raging on in classrooms across the country, according to this article in McClatchy Washington.

A June 2008 Gallup poll, 49 percent of those surveyed believe in evolution, while 48 percent do not. These numbers have remained the same for the past 25 years. Additionally, the poll found that nearly 2/3rds of Republicans reject evolution, while independents and Democrats accept evolution as scientific fact.

A December 2009 Harris poll found that more people believe in devils, angels, and hell than in evolution.

There is currently anti-evolution guidelines proposed in Texas and Louisiana. Similar proposals are pending in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Missouri, Oklahoma, and South Carolina.
