Maggots need not apply

In the near future, humans may not be the only beings searching for a job in the future. Maggots may soon be out of a job. For centuries, the insects were used to help treat wounds. The maggots ate the diseased and dead flesh, allowing new skin to grow in its place.

However, a study published on Friday by the British Medical Journal found that there was negligable difference between using maggots to treat a wound and using a salve called hydrogel. The study, which tracked the results of 267 patients, found that the patients treated with hydrogel healed in an average of 245 days, while the patients treated with maggots healted in 236 days. Additionally, the study found that patients experienced a lot more pain when the maggots were used.
